As a Broker/Owner and Coach I come across varying answers for the question I pose above. In an industry with an extremely high turnover rate and the average agent earning commission amounts that hover around the poverty line, it’s no wonder why some Realtors just aren’t that in love with their career.
In my own experience I can safely say that I’ve been on both sides of the fence and considered leaving the industry at one point due to the challenges I was creating for myself including but not limited to: Burnout, Relationship Issues, Inflated Ego and Escapism. It wasn’t until I took a good hard look at myself that I learned to love what I do again. In my own experience I understand it’s a constant personal investigation and pursuit of awareness about myself.
Of course we all have our days where things just don’t go right but if you take a regular inventory of yourself and do your best to stay aware, Real Estate can be a highly rewarding career both personally and financially.
Here are 3 “Awareness Checks” for your own place of discovery:
- Personal Responsibility
Understand that we are a reflection of every single choice that we’ve ever made. What we are currently experiencing in our Real Estate Business is a direct result of the choices we have made leading up to this exact moment. Ask yourself how you’ve created what you’re encountering in your current space and time. How can you learn and grow from this experience with the opportunity to evolve further?
I don’t know too many people who can say that as children they had a burning desire to become a Realtor when they grew up. The circumstances of our lives brought us into this industry for one reason or another. Ask yourself if you are grateful for those experiences that led you to your chosen career path.
Understand that we move into each day as we left the previous one before us. Consider a journal exercise of 3 things, morning and night that you are grateful for when it comes to your Real Estate Career. In my truest belief, I will suggest by invoking grace and gratitude into your experiences you will see life and career through an entirely different lens.
3. The Mindset of Change
If you are not experiencing everything that you desire inside of your Real Estate careers including happiness, freedom and results based productivity; I challenge you to consider the following:
Change is not something that happens over time. Circumstances happen over time and lead to a moment where you decide to make a change or you don’t. This is the Power of Choice and change happens instantly if you decide to do so.
Ask yourself what changes you need to make to experience what you so desire inside of your career. Where are you now? Where do you want to be? What must happen in order for you to get there?
In all of this remember that there are no right answers. This journey is a place of discovery and yours alone to encounter and navigate. I hope this article opens up the positive feeling towards your business further.
