Wondering how to make your Snaps more interesting and get more views? I just created a list of my top four tips to help you have a better overall Snapchat presence. With over 100 million daily active users, it’s important to understand the nuances of this social media platform. Snapchat is one of the best ways to market your business to 18–35 year olds and one of the most fun ways to keep in touch with friends.
1. Start posting more video
Make sure that your Snapchat stories aren’t just photos. Videos are more engaging because people can see your personality! Plus, if you’re marketing your personal brand or business, video has never been more important for your marketing than it is today. It can be a bit daunting in the beginning if you’re not used to being on camera, but trust me, it’s crucial if you’re marketing a business and it’s just way more fun for your Snap friends to watch.
2. Only post vertically
Snapchat was made to be enjoyed vertically. So it’s important to respect the platform and create vertical content. If you post horizontally people might miss your photos and videos by the time they turn their phone (if they turn their phone at all). The future of video marketing is in a really cool place because of Snapchat and the rise of vertical video! I recently wrote about Snapchat’s upcoming launch of Spectacles which will also add to the popularity of vertical video.
3. Switch it up and make it interesting
Try to Switch It Up by using some type of text, bitmoji, or emoji on all snaps. This makes each snap more visually pleasing and keeps it fresh. Some people do a ton of talking selfie videos, which is fine, but if they’d just add a few effects and maybe switch up the angle or background, it would be more engaging! I’ve found myself just skip people’s stories because it was just them taking snap after snap with no added visuals like text, emoji’s, or music. Another way to easily make your snaps more interesting is to use geofilters or Snapchat lenses. If you’d like to learn how to make your own geofilters, you can check out an article I wrote outlining how to make your own.
4. Stop the mass snaps
Please, stop sending the same snap to individual people AND to your story aka mass snapping people. Just don’t do it. That’s what your story is for. That way people can choose if they want to watch. Nothing is more annoying than the excitement of seeing a direct message notification only to find out that it wasn’t for you! It’s obvious within the first second that you just sent this to all of your friend list and it’s not appreciated. Unless you’re sure that person is going to get some value out of what you’ve sent them or it’s a close friend, you’ve got to stop doing this. I recently unfriended someone because they continuously did this. Please, stop wasting people’s time.
