I believe we all have dreams and visions for greatness, because God plants that seed in our hearts. The seed springs from out chests in our childhood, as flights of fancy wrapped in our life’s infinite possibilities. We don’t doubt our infinite potential for one second. We played dress up. We became super heroes. We built rockets to the moon. We created the life that filled us with meaning, love, and laughter. But, holding on to the dream isn’t so easy.

At Age 9, I proudly professed my Martian lineage. How I was a space speck eaten by my Mother and presto — here I am! From an early age, I did not know how right I was about my origin. I knew from an early age there was something great within me that made me different than anyone else. Within a few years, my unknown seed of greatness broke out in every church and school play. It was clear I had a gift for storytelling, speaking, and teaching. However, the harsh weeds of reality began squeezing and choking that seedling of greatness, before it could truly transform my life.

By age 15, God’s seedling of greatness was under attack. Life on the stage and sharing messages passionately withdrew and another seedling popped up instead — conformity. Perhaps you can relate?

Having something special worth living toward and then having it snatched away, too. After 20 years, my replacement seed sprang up inside me and grew like a weed. It transformed my infinite view of life’s possibilities into a myopic, joyless, and meaningless life of conformity.

My parents, friends, preachers, teachers, and the media watered this second seed vigorously, for nearly 20 years. And, I succumbed to a practical, well-worn track of conformity — go to school, get a job, raise a family, climb a ladder, and do everything else you’re told, because your dream of speaking and storytelling is too risky to trust — pick something else. I’m sure you can relate to this outcome, right?

I picked something else, but what chose me would not leave me alone. For years, God’s seed inside me would not give up — it had a purpose beyond my comprehension. In 2005, I was losing my mind doing work I hated and hated me back. I found myself crying out to God, who answered me with His Gift Table Message, which was so powerful that I wrote a book about it.

The catch: God wanted me to share this message on the world stage. This meant telling the world that God had a gift for every man and woman, that brings them abundance, meaning, and changes the world for the better.
The seed, God planted years ago, started growing again. The replacement seed stopped growing and I could see the infinite possibilities of God’s message and sharing it with the world. There was one big problem. I was not ready to publicly share my belief or go all in sharing God’s message, because I watched my Father crash and burn as a pastor in the worst ways!

So, I tried briefly monetizing God’s message of hope and slowly deleting Him from it. His seed stopped growing. I fell into fear and ran from His message for 11 years. I started watering my replacement seed vigorously and it became a giant weed that ruined my dream garden of infinite possibilities — so I thought.

For 11 years, I focused on coaching, teaching, speaking, and sharing corporate messages and became quite good at it. However, I paid dearly for watering my replacement seed. I had money, but life had no meaning. I had respect, but no rest. I had a life filled with stuff, but my heart was empty.

In 2016, my life fell apart and God hit the reset button with a second message of surrender and success growing his seed of greatness within me. His second message was simple: I was far too easily pleased with conformity, when He’s planned so much more for me. This made me think about C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses famous quote:

It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

In 2017, I began pulling up my replacement seeds’ weed at the root. I refocused my energy on God’s Gift Table and Surrender message He wanted me to share with the world using my coaching, speaking, and teaching gifts honed at Fortune 50 organizations. To my astonishment, I saw my original seedling growing right next to the replacement seed’s weed! God’s plans are perfect.

I realized I had been watering God’s seedling all along. An old African proverb says, “Sometimes you have to go around a long way to come back a short distance.” I realize my dream was alive and well, but moving in the wrong direction. It was time to stop running in the wrong direction.

The world is filled with people who are unhappily running, in fear, toward lives God never planned nor people ever wanted. This was me. And, I’ll understand if this is you too.

I’ve found a way to stop running and embraced God’s infinite plan for abundance and world change, which includes a solution for you — if you are running from your dreams, too. You need not be pleased with conformity, because you were born for so much more.

Here are a few tips I’ve learned and captured in an online training course, which teaches people how to stop running in the wrong direction, embrace their God given gifts, and begin changing their lives as well as the world:

1. Find the great dream and gift within worth living toward, because the world needs it from you.

2. Focus on what makes you feel happy, expectant, and engaged in life without worrying about “how”.

3. Learn to guard your dream and mindset against people and things that steal your dream.

4. Build certainty and trust around your dream and budding gift’s greatness with daily affirmation. What we think, we become — the Buddha. What you will become is certain about what you focus on.

5. Study your gift and find resonant ways to develop your greatness, so it grows into work or an enterprise that takes care of you.

6. Finally, find a mission and meaning in helping people with your gift (Ex. Charitable donation, teaching someone to read/write, sitting with an elderly person, etc.). Living is giving and giving is the hallmark of highly successful people!

Wrapping up, God placed a seed or gift in your heart for a life of infinite possibilities living your dream not conforming to a life that is nothing more than a meaningless weed of an existence.

God wants you to meet him at the Gift Table and pick up your present, because without it there’s no real future!
