What Is Massive Success (and what it means for both you and Musk)
“Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself.” — Viktor Frankl
I believe in the first part of this quote whole-heartedly, though I believe the second part of the quote should be re-written to one’s ‘personal dedication to one’s self and surrendered state of consciousness that creates the deep presence required to Be successful’.
Massive Success is simple:
A confident state of mind and belief where mindset, skillset and tool set combine to recognize that maximizing your potential and upholding excellence is the meaning of life itself.
The pursuit of the journey itself is the way to success
- This state gives you courage.
- This state give you conviction.
- This state gives you confidence.
These things combined give you momentum.
Momentum breeds more momentum and soon you’ll have so much momentum you arrive in the state of Elon Musk who is unstoppable and the Size of a God.
This gives you the ability to transcend fear and channel it into fuel.
Musk got hit with the recession at the worst possible time for Tesla and SpaceX, two massive organizations and he bet his final $180 million in personal savings to save them with absolutely no guarantee in sight.
That may sound like first world problems to the max, and to some extent it is, but it’s all relative. He was playing in the billionaire leagues with multiple billion dollar companies. That $180 million was his final hail mary and there was no question he’d risk going broke because he’s massively successful and couldn’t care less about $180 million because massive success stays hungry and stays foolish because it has faith.
You can tell in the way he speaks and thinks. He’s a child in a playground, with his mind ten thousand steps ahead of his words.
This is the secret of the great titans.
They paradoxically don’t care about money or the glitz and glamour. They’re just the most successful specimens around. As in, they uphold excellence as law. It’s code for them and they thrive off of competition because they or they make it fun), not because they necessarily care to beat another guy (though in the process, they very much do).
See the nuance?
Jeff Bezos can afford and I’m sure would love to give his employees free coffee, but not providing unlimited coffee for all employees was his way of ‘staying hungry and staying foolish’ culture of being cheap that he kept at Amazon from day one and still does to this day.
It’s the trickle down effects of the culture.
To keep my context in check, I invite you to watch this video of Musk from 1:03 to about 1:30 to see exactly what I’m talking about.
How To Use This To Your Benefit To Become Massively Successful
“I have so much to do I’ll have to pray for three hours to get it all done.” Martin Luther
The counter intuitive thing you need to become massively successful is to relentlessly focus on what drives your personal growth, as selfishly as possible.
You must invest in yourself aggressively.
You must believe in yourself aggressively.
You must follow up those beliefs with aggressive investments in yourself.
To the point average people think you’re crazy.
To the point average people think you’re obsessed.
If you’re not obsessed yet, investing in yourself will make you obsessed.
If you are obsessed, invest in yourself to get over the hump.
Your subconscious must believe you can accomplish what your conscious desires tell you, and the path to that belief is investing in yourself.
The more you want to get done, the deeper the work and recovery.
The more you want to bring into the world, the more you need to focus on potency.
The more you focus on potency, the more you cultivate your inner creative process.
The bigger the things you want to bring into the world, the more you need to manage your thoughts.
Thoughts become things and things become habit and habit becomes you.
So habitually signal to both yourself and the world that you deserve to build rocket ships and electric cars and you will.
“If you haven’t cried while you’ve worked, you aren’t tormented enough by the problem you’re working on.” — me
The more massive the goal the thinner the margin between a win and a loss.
The more massive the goal, the more personal the goal needs to be for massive success.
The more personal it is, the more your ego will be invested in it and it will have it attach as a part of who you are.
Then you’ll be vested.
Then you’ll have the courage to leave yourself no way out.
Then you’ll burn your boats.
That’s when you take the island.
That’s when the journey toward massive success becomes success itself.
And that’s when you know you’re massively successful like Elon Musk.
